As you can see it all boils down to proper instructions, time you have available and how patient you are.
Another thing to take into account is you do not have the instinct, reflexes and intuition of a person that has been doing the project for a living. If not you need to decide if you can live with the inferior results you will produce initially.
These are just some of the things to consider when you decide whether or not to hire a professional or Do-It-Yourself.
The bottom line for me though is I would try the Do-It-Yourself option first and give myself a deadline to put it into action as well as to complete the project. If I go a week past either date without achieving my goal I will then opt for hiring the professional. Because I know my weakness is procrastinating.
